Fort Stanwix, Treaty (1768) — History and Overview

The Treaty of Fort Stanwix was an agreement between British officials and the Iroquois Confederacy that ceded land in the Ohio Country to Great Britain. The treaty replaced the Proclamation Line of 1763 with a formal Boundary Line, and strengthened the Covenant Chain between the Iroquois and the British government. Future alterations to the Boundary Line contributed to hostilities, Westward Expansion, and the fulfillment of America’s Manifest Destiny.
