1763–1781 - American Revolution

The Battle of Monmouth was fought on June 28, 1778, during the American Revolutionary War. It was part of the Philadelphia Campaign, ended in a stalemate, and was the last battle of the campaign.

Richard Montgomery was a Brigadier General in the Continental Army during the early days of the American Revolutionary War. He led part of the American forces during the failed Invasion of Canada and captured key positions before he was killed during the Battle of Quebec.

The Battle of Montreal, also known as the Battle of Longue-Pointe, was fought from September 24-25, 1775, during the Revolutionary War. The battle was won by the British forces, who defeated American forces led by Ethan Allen. Allen was captured and eventually sent to England where he was held as a prisoner of war.

The Battle of Moore's Creek Bridge was fought between the United Colonies and Great Britain on February 27, 1776, near Wilmington, North Carolina, during the American Revolution. It was the first battle of the war that took place in North Carolina and also the first battlefield victory for American forces in the war.

Daniel Morgan was an officer in the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. He commanded backwoods riflemen during several engagements, including the Siege of Boston, the Battle of Quebec, and Battles of Saratoga. In 1781, he led American forces to victory at the Battle of Cowpens.

Lewis Morris was a landowner, soldier, and politician who rose to prominence in Westchester County, New York, during the American Revolution. A staunch supporter of the Patriot Cause, he clashed with other prominent families in the area who remained loyal to the Crown. Despite this, he played an active role in the revolutionary governments of the county and New York, and led troops in the Westchester County Militia. As a member of the Continental Congress, he signed the Declaration of Independence, making him one of the nation’s Founding Fathers.

Robert Morris was a Philadelphia merchant and Founding Father who is often referred to as the “Financier of the Revolution.” Morris was a signer of the Declaration of Independence, Articles of Confederation, and the United States Constitution.

On December 1, 1779, the Continental Army, under the command of General George Washington, established winter headquarters at Morristown, New Jersey. The army stayed there until June 1780. It was one of the worst winters ever endured and is known as the Hard Winter.

John Morton, Jr. was a well-known representative, law enforcement officer, and judge from Pennsylvania. He participated in key events that shaped the American Revolution, including the Stamp Act Congress, First Continental Congress, and Second Continental Congress. He also signed the Declaration of Independence and helped write the Articles of Confederation.

William Moultrie was an officer in the South Carolina Militia and Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. He led men to victory in the Battle of Sullivan's Island and the Battle of Beaufort. After the war, he was twice elected Governor of South Carolina.

William Murdock was a lawyer and politician from Maryland. He participated in the Stamp Act Congress in 1765.

The Battle of Musgrove Mill was fought between the United States of America and Great Britain on August 18, 1780, during the American Revolutionary War. American forces won the battle, which is most famous for the role played by Isaac Shelby and the Overmountain Men.

The Operations in Narragansett Bay were a series of military actions that took place on land and sea, on and around the waters and islands of the Province of Rhode Island. The operations took place during the Siege of Boston and contributed to the establishment of both the Rhode Island Navy and the Continental Navy. British threats to towns around Narragansett Bay also helped solidify Rhode Island’s support for independence.

The Navigation Acts, also known as the Acts of Trade and Navigation, were a series of laws that controlled trade and shipping in the British Empire. As the American Colonies matured, the laws were expanded to restrict manufacturing in America and enforce the Mercantile System. By the mid-17th Century, enforcement of the laws became a primary cause of the American Revolution.

Thomas Nelson Jr. was a Virginia politician who rose to prominence during the American Revolution and signed the Declaration of Independence, making him one of the nation’s Founding Fathers.
