There are two ways to search the Encyclopedia:
- Site Search
- Search Engine Command
Site Search
You can use the default Site Search, which is found in two places.
- On the Home Page — the Search Box appears at the top of the page.
- On the Main Menu — the Search Icon is the last item listed in the menu. For sighted users, the icon looks like a magnifying glass.
To conduct a search, enter your query into the field and submit.
The Site Search is limited in scope and does not currently offer an advanced search option. The Site Search will return Objects in the system that match the query. However, the Site Search will always display the Object Title and Object Abstract in the results.
To see the difference, test the following queries:
- sugar act
- daniel dulaney
Search Engine Command
The Seach Engine Command option allows users to perform a more detailed search of Encyclopedia content. To do this, go to your search engine of choice and type:
site:americanhistorycentral.com
Followed by your query in single quotes:
‘sugar act’
ex. site:americanhistorycentral.com ‘sugar act’
ex. site:americanhistorycentral.com ‘daniel dulaney’
