General Orders No. 218, USWD, July 16, 1863

On July 16, 1863, the U.S. War Department issued General Orders, No. 218 announcing that Brigadier General Quincy A. Gillmore had replaced Major General David Hunter as commander of the 10th Army Corps.

By Direction of the President of the United States, Brigadier General Quincy A. Gillmore is appointed to the command of the Tenth Army Corps, in place of Major General David Hunter, relieved, to date from June 12, 1863.
